Summary of the training:Training at IMT is divided into two periods - the first 3 days at Bio3 Institute and the remaining time at Groupe IMT – Technical Unit.
Bio3 Institute: We were introduced about techniques and methods in upstream and downstream process of pharmaceutical production. In upstream process, we did cell culturing in safety cabinet in full costume set-up. We were introduced to various equipment used in cell counting and several types of bioreactors that are used in industrial setting. For downstream process, we learn to assemble and operate equipment used in chromatography, centrifugation, and purification following GMPs.
Groupe IMT – Technical Unit:
We had hands-on experience in semi-solid process and solid process. We learnt about gel and cream production, where we tried at laboratory scale recipes with different ingredients and different concentrations. We were able to observe different behaviors and properties of those products. We operated mixer-dispensers to produce gel and cream products with predetermined recipes. The product is tested for viscosity on a viscometer at the end. From this, we learnt about the principles behind semi-solid manufacturing, the requirements for both ingredients and equipment to reach desired properties in final products.
For solid process, we carried out the test production of solid tablets in steps: wet granulation, drying, tableting, coating. Similarly, we also learnt the working principle of each machine, parts to assemble and test run two batches with predetermined recipes (not containing active pharmaceutical ingredients) to demonstrate the properties of the products as the production steps progress.
Side project: We looked at a model of tablet production line available at IMT. We made a quick production of chewing gum, by mixing simple, ready ingredients and using old-fashioned tableting machine.
Fun part: Visiting Tours, France is an interesting experience. Aside from the time we spent for training, we were able to visit some attractions in the city, like the Old Town, the City Centre, castles. Tours is a beautiful and peaceful city, rich in history and culture and I had a great time, both during the training and visiting the city.
The end.
Thank you for the opportunity!
