On 29 September, the traditional Welcome Ceremony for First-Year Students at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Pécs will once again take place, marking one of the defining and special moments of each academic year. The event aims to officially welcome the Faculty’s new students and help them become part of university life.
During the ceremony, first-year students will have the opportunity to meet the leaders of the Faculty, as well as the heads of the institutes and departments, who will provide them with valuable guidance and useful insights as they embark on their university journey.
As part of the welcome ceremony, first-year students will also receive a symbolic gift, a welcome card, representing their belonging to the university community and their connection to the Faculty.
One of the most special elements of the event is the Faculty’s “Tree of Life”, located in the Collaboratory student community space in Building K on the Rókus Street campus. Launched in 2024, this initiative continues this year and has now become a tradition, symbolising how each new student enriches the Faculty community with their own story and personality.
As part of the tradition, first-year students place a leaf bearing their name on one of the branches of the Tree of Life. These leaves preserve a memory of the students’ university years, and, according to the tradition, they will be able to take them down from the tree after their graduation ceremony and keep them as a symbolic memento of their university years. Over time, the names of newly arriving students will take their place, meaning that the Tree of Life, through its constantly changing form, also represents the renewal of the Faculty’s student community from one generation to the next.
The Tree of Life is not only a symbol of the student community, but also represents the important milestones of the university journey: entering the Faculty community, the years spent together, personal and professional development, and finally the completion of the university years with the achievement of a degree.
For the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Pécs, it is important that university life should be about more than learning and professional development. It should also be about belonging to a community, shared experiences and the traditions that shape students’ long-term connection to the Faculty. In this spirit, the Welcome Ceremony for First-Year Students not only marks the beginning of a new academic year, but also the beginning of the first chapter of a shared story.
